The use of gas is expected to drop in the next few days to an average of 7.2mcm per day.

Flow across the North Sea is down as flows into gas terminal Bacton Shell has dropped.

The UK’s Interconnector flow should stay at around 30mcm but the send-out of LNG is expected to go up next week, according to npower’s daily market report.

Overall power capacity this morning is 13GW and the gas system is roughly balanced, said Alex Guiot, Client Portfolio Manager at npower’s Optimisation Desk.

There has been a strong wind feed-in with 1.6GW currently being produced and expected to go up throughout the day.

Trade in gas has fallen from 1.05p/th to 0.65p/th.

Oil is now trading at $63.85/bbl.

Mr Guiot said the GBP has strengthened against the USD, adding: “We might see some direction later as we are waiting for the data this morning and this afternoon.”
