The gas system forecast is 4mcm short today, according to npower’s daily market report.

The slight undersupply has been a common theme this week but Client Portfolio Manager of npower Tim Carter said this “hasn’t led to a great amount of support for prices”.

That’s due to the range of supply options available to balance the system, he added.

The Interconnector exports to Europe are still healthy although the pipeline flows are “quieter” compared to previous days.

Norwegian flows have suffered because of an outage which means there could be more exports from the UK.

Gas send out is lower – at 30mcm – but four cargoes are expected at the end of the week so the send-out might go up to around 40mcm a day, Mr Carter said.

The power system is comfortable, with peak margins at 15GW. Solar feed-in is lower today (4.2GW) and wind is lower than forecast, providing just 500MW.

Prices have gone down by $2 (£1.30) in the oil market.
