The UK’s onshore wind industry got a huge boost, thanks to a £30 million investment.

The money will be used to develop 20 wind farms across the country including East Yorkshire, Suffolk and Carmarthenshire.

Equity fund manager Zouk Capital will buy the sites from renewable energy firm UrbanWind.

It provided the cash for UrbanWind’s projects that had recieved planning permission but lacked the funding to develop them.

Work has already begun on a 500KW wind farm in Fife and two 100KW projects in Cambridgeshire and Pembrokeshire.

Paul McCullagh, Urban Wind’s Chief Executive said: “It will enable UrbanWind to move ahead with development plans and is also a powerful endorsement of the future that wind technology has in the UK.”

UrbanWind said it is looking to buy more sites for wind projects.
