Jobs in the UK clean industry grew by as much as 9% last year.

That’s according to a new report, which estimates employment reached 112,026, with the biomass heating sector seeing the most increase – up around 19%.

London was the strongest region, accounting for more than 21,000 jobs, followed by the southeast (14,767) and northwest (10,693).

Nina Skorupska Chief Executive of the Renewable Energy Association (REA) said: “This reflects greater confidence not only in the renewables market but also the wider economy as a whole.

“Our industry offers a wealth of unique and exciting career opportunities and plays an essential part in ensuring that the UK meets its renewable energy targets.”

She added renewable energy must remain a priority for the next government.
