Amber Rudd has been named as the UK Government’s new Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.

Prime Minister David Cameron confirmed the news of his appointment on his official twitter account.

It comes as he has been announcing the final roles in his cabinet following the Conservative Party’s unexpected election win last week.

Ms Rudd replaces Lib Dem MP Ed Davey, who had been in the coalition government with Mr Cameron since 2010.

She joined the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) last July.
