Mitsubishi has signed a 25-year agreement to construct, own and operate two energy plants in Qatar.

The buildings, a 2.4GW power generator and a water desalination facility (590,000 m3/day), are located 20km south of the capital Doha and scheduled to open in 2017.

Mitsubishi has teamed up with Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPC) to form a joint venture called K1 Energy.

Mitsubishi own 98.5% whilst TEPC own 1.5%.

The power and water purchase agreement was reached between K1 Energy and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation.

Qatar is the world’s third largest producer and exporter of natural gas, where the demand for power generation and water purification has grown rapidly in recent years.
