The UK gas system is oversupplied, according to npower’s daily market report.
The linepack is forecast at 5.3mcm long and CCGT demand has dropped below 30mcm as wind generation has improved today.
The Interconnector exports are still strong with 36mcm nominated.
The power system is more comfortable today compared to yesterday.
Wind is generating more than 4GW and forecast to increase to 5GW by this afternoon.
The peak margins are nearly 15GW.
Tim Carter from npower’s optimisation desk said: “Coal is generating under 5GW while nuclear is flat at 7.4GW and CCGT again leads the way with just under 10GW.”
Oil markets have continued their recent bearish trend. The benchmark Brent contracts are trading under $62.5 a barrel (£40.8/Bbl).
This is partially due to “a slightly strong dollar combined with concerns of rising US supplies”, said Mr Carter.
