Electric vehicle (EV) charge points at selected London Fire Brigade stations will go live today.

They will be available across 71 fire stations and five other brigade sites.

Nine will be available to the public in areas including Croydon, East Ham and Edmonton. They can be used via a smartphone by registering for access which will instantly unlock them.

Last year, the Brigade secured £592,000 of government funding to cover 75% of the total cost.

London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson, said: “Electric cars offer big environmental benefits and play an important part in keeping London clean.

“The new charging network not only makes it easy and convenient to charge up a car’s battery making electric cars easier to use but also reaffirms London Fire Brigade’s commitment to lead on sustainability in the fire service and reducing our impact on the environment.”
