The UK gas system has open oversupplied, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is currently forecast to close 3mcm long.

Langeled flows continue to be healthy at 36mcm. Gemma Bruce from npower’s optimisation desk said: “They are expected to stay around this level until the 4th of July when maintenance at Troll [gas field] begins.”

Exports through the Interconnector (IUK) pipeline remain strong.

Ms Bruce added this is “following a widening of spreads between the NBP [National Balancing Point] and European hubs”.

She said: “With the upcoming Norwegian maintenance we might see the NBP lifted in order to curb exports through the IUK.”

Power margins have tightened to 11GW as wind generation has fallen short of forecasts at 2.5GW.

Solar forecasts are healthy with PV expected to out-turn at 5.7GW later today.

Gas-fired generation remains dominant making up 36% of the stack.

Ms Bruce went on: “Elsewhere we still have to watch out for any Greek debt talks.

“The ongoing situation has provided another currency swing this morning with the GBP strengthening against the euro.

“This swing is the result of the International Monetary Fund repayment being missed yesterday.

“We have also seen reports Ukraine has halted Russian gas imports today after energy officials failed to agree on quarterly prices for the third quarter of this year.”
