Council tenants across South Lanarkshire will save more than £370,000 on their fuel bills.

The reduction is due to energy efficiency reforms in their homes in the past year.

The upgrading works under the ‘Home Happening’ programme include measures such as loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, external-wall insulation and heating upgrades.

The improvements will result in lower fuel consumption and a reduction in carbon production, the Council stated.

It also claims 79% of the council housing meets Scotland’s target for council housing across the country to be more efficient by 2020.

Ann Gee, Executive Director of Housing and Technical Resources said: “In these difficult financial times, we are delighted that this work should result in lower bills for people across South Lanarkshire, as well as giving them more comfortable homes.”
