The gas system is balanced today, according to npower’s daily market report.

Demand has dropped by nearly 25mcm.

Tim Carter from npower’s optimisation desk said: “A combination of factors have contributed to this. Firstly, wind generation has picked up a little bit with around 2GW forecast at the peak period this afternoon. That means CCGT demand has drop off to around 32mcm.”

Exports through the UK Interconnector are down to 7mcm.

Pipeline flows and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) sendout are flat but “with three tankers on the way to the UK in the next couple of weeks we could see a pick up there next week”, Mr Carter added.

Storage injection levels are forecast at 16mcm today.

Brent oil is trading at $60 per barrel (£37.8/Bbl).
