There has been an unexpected outage at Shell’s Scottish gas terminal, St Fergus.

It happened at 9pm last Friday and is expected to last until 6am 31st July.

National Grid data showed the outage has cut flows by 12.6 mcm per day leaving the system nine million cubic metres (mcm) short.

Stuart Lea, Head of Energy Trading at Inenco, said: “St Fergus is a major entry point for gas flows into the UK so an outage during winter months could cause real concern for security of supply but this unexpected outage has happened during summer months when demand is low so the impact on the day ahead market has been limited.”
