US company SunEdison will build a solar farm with a capacity of 180MW in India.

The project, which will be located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, is expected to generate 375,000MWh of energy and reduce around 300,000 metric tons of carbon emissions per year.

The company is responsible for the operation, maintenance and monitoring of the plant.

The power produced at the facility will be used by Tata Power Delhi Distribution to deliver it to more than six million people in the capital, New Delhi.

Pashupathy Gopalan, SunEdison President of Asia-Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa said: “The people of New Delhi will benefit from clean, reliable and affordable energy as a result of this project. This project makes a direct and powerful contribution towards India’s goal of generating 100GW of solar power by 2022.”
