The gas system is balanced today, according to npower’s daily market report.

That’s because exports via the UK Interconnector have increased to 32mcm. The linepack is forecast to close 3mcm long.

Langeled flows are still in line with yesterday’s levels at 42mcm.

Sarah Astley from npower’s optimisation desk said: “Following the unplanned outage which commenced last Friday on the Entry SEGAL [Shell-Esso Gas and Liquids] pipeline, this is now coming to an end so we see flows increasing from the UK Continental Shelf.

“Gas demand for power generation is a bit higher today at 38mcm compared to 30mcm yesterday, which is also helping support demand.”

The power system’s peak margin is forecast below 10GW today.

Wind generation stands at 200MW but according to Ms Astley, it is expected to increase to a peak of around 2.5GW tonight.

She added: “The forecast for next week is relatively strong wind generation on Monday at around 4GW however it drops off the rest of the week to just around 1GW.”

Oil is currently trading at $55.3 per barrel (£35.39/bbl).
