Spanish manufacturer Gamesa has won a contract to repower a wind farm in West Yorkshire.

It will deliver nine turbines which are expected to have a capacity of 18MW – enough to power around 12,000 homes in the UK.

They will replace 23 turbines which were installed 22 years ago and had a total capacity of 9MW.

The Ovenden Moor wind farm, developed by E.ON and Energy Power Resources, will reduce 21,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

It is scheduled to start operating in 2016.
