The gas system is oversupplied, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast to close 19mcm long.

Tim Carter from npower’s optimisation desk said: “This comes despite total demand picking up 10mcm above seasonal normal levels in response to slightly cooler temperatures and lower renewable power generation.

“However, ahead of the Troll maintenance on Friday – which will likely cut Langeled flows to the UK to zero – nominations for today have increased to 46mcm.”

The UK Interconnector exports and LNG send-out are “roughly flat”.

Power margins are forecast to dip below 10GW. Wind is currently generating at 1.7GW. Mr Carter added this is “below forecast so gas demand from CCGT has picked up accordingly”.

The pound  is now worth €1.43. Mr Carter went on: “This will be making all European gas cheaper and also deter exports from the UK.”

Oil is currently trading at $50.5 a barrel (£33/Bbl).
