An office supplies provider is installing a 3.8MW rooftop solar project which is expected to help save £50,000 a year in energy costs.

Electricity generation from the 13,800-panel system is forecast to exceed 3.2MWh a year – cutting annual emissions by 1,700 tonnes.

It is being built at Lyreco’s distribution centre in Telford which is 15-acres big, equivalent to seven and a half Old Trafford football pitches.

The project is claimed to be one of the largest rooftop solar arrays in the UK and is expected to be completed in October.

It will also be one of five rooftop solar systems in the UK to exceed 3.2MWh in yearly output, the company claims.
