The UK gas system has opened undersupplied, according to npower’s daily market report.
The linepack is currently forecast to close 11mcm short.
Gemma Bruce from npower’s optimisation desk said: “Demand continues to be higher given lower average temperatures and strong exports to the continent via the IUK pipeline and we’ve also seen lower Norwegian flows further adding to the system tightness.”
Langeled flows are currently at 36mcm.
Ms Bruce added: “We have also seen Bacton Seal gas flows drop to a 10-day low on an outage there which is not expected to be back before this afternoon.”
On the power system, margins are around 10GW.
She said: “Gas fired generation is contributing around 40% currently.”
Wind generation is at 2.3GW and is forecast to pick up to 5GW tomorrow.
Oil is trading at $50 per barrel.
