Oslo’s new left-wing city Government has reportedly proposed a ban on private cars from the city centre by 2019.

The move is part of its plans to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to 1990 levels.

Reports claim the winners of the recent municipal elections in Norway’s capital city presented a platform which focused on the environment and the fight against climate change.

The city centre is home to only about 1,000 people but where some 90,000 work, according to Norwegian newspaper Verdans Gang.
