The UK gas system is short today, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast 2mcm short.

Langeled flows from Norway are around 10mcm lower than yesterday and planned field maintenance is expected to reduce production by 30mcm for two days.

Tim Carter from npower’s optimisation desk said: “We have also seen a slight drop off in LNG supply today with players perhaps eyeing up slightly fewer tanker arrivals in November with spreads to Asian spot price picking up in comparison with NBP (National Balancing Point).”

CCGT nominations are 25% lower due to “strong wind” generation which is at 5GW, according to Mr Carter.

He added: “But it is expected to drop off through the afternoon to under 3GW before picking back up tomorrow.”

Brent oil is currently trading at $48.5 (£31.5) per barrel.
