The gas system has opened 8mcm undersupplied this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.
Norwegian flows through the Langeled pipeline have remained subdued at around 50mcm and South Hook is withdrawing 25mcm which is in line with yesterday. Rough is withdrawing 2mcm.
The temperature is two times higher than seasonal normal levels which is suppressing gas demand.
Alex Guiot from npower’s optimisation desk said: “Temperatures are expected to come back to normal in 10 days time. We are already talking about the warmest December on record.”
The peak power margin is lower than yesterday at 10GW.
Stormy winds are providing 5.5GW and are expected to increase to 6.4GW later today. This morning CCGTs are providing 28% of the stack and coal is generating 22%.
The Dutch interconnector is importing at full capacity whilst the French one is not exporting anything at the moment.
The pound is slowly decreasing against the euro as it is now worth €1.40. Oil is currently trading at $44 a barrel (£29/Bbl).
