The gas system has opened 9mcm short this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.
That’s due to an increase in export to Belgium reaching 19mcm today from 8mcm yesterday.
Norwegian flows through the Langeled pipeline have dropped to 50mcm. South Hook is in line with yesterday.
Temperatures are remaining higher than seasonal normal levels but they will average out at the end of next week. This will increase UK industrial and residential demand from 175mcm to 196mcm.
The peak power margin has dropped to just below 10GW.
Wind generation is now providing 5.3GW and is expected to increase to 6.4GW later today. The Dutch interconnector is importing at full capacity.
Alex Guiot from npower’s optimisation desk said: “The pound is slowly rebounding after its steep drop yesterday after the European Central Bank’s decision to cut their deposit rate for at least three months.” It is currently worth just under €1.39.
Oil is currently trading at $43.80 a barrel (£29/Bbl).
