US firm General Electric (GE) has bought a UK wind turbine blade company for an undisclosed amount.

Blade Dynamics aims to reduce the cost of electricity generation of new and increasingly bigger wind turbines – particularly for offshore installations.

It claims it has the potential “to radically transform the blade manufacturing process”.

The firm, which has been working on an advanced wind turbine blades project, was one of six successful entrants at KIC InnoEnergy’s ‘Call for Innovation’ scheme.

KIC InnoEnergy helps start-ups with sustainable goals by giving advice and financing.

GE previously agreed to invest in a 42MW solar power project in Japan.
