Almost 3.5 million people have switched their energy supplier this year so far.

That’s higher than the same period in 2013 and 2014, according to trade body Energy UK, which represents the Big Six companies among others.

More than 113,700 customers moved to smaller suppliers in November.

The figure is 29% above average of all switches for the month, it stated.

Lawrence Slade, Chief Executive of Energy UK said: “We have seen a record number of switches so far this year which proves people are engaged with their energy providers and shopping around to find the best deal for them.

“The industry and government’s commitment to make switching simpler and quicker for customers has been reflected in the increase in switches this year.”

Earlier this year, the government said energy consumers are missing out on £2.2 billion worth of savings by not switching suppliers.
