The UK gas system is undersupplied this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast to close 29mcm short.

Gemma Bruce from npower’s Optimisation Desk said: “Despite temperatures remaining above seasonal normal levels, gas demand is higher than average for the time of year supported by the high levels of gas fired generation online.

Langeled flows are at 68mcm, BBL (Balgzand Bacton Line) flows at 21mcm and LNG send-out stands at 26mcm.

Ms Bruce added: “However with no further tankers currently scheduled we may see send-out reduce over the next week or so in order to maintain stock levels.”

On the power system, margins are at 10GW.

CCGT is making up 44% of the stack and wind is generating at 1GW.

Imports through the French interconnector are at 480MW.

“This is however nominated to pick up to the reduced capacity of 1500MW by midday before flipping to export mode over the evening peak”, according to Ms Bruce.

Oil is trading at $37.7 per barrel (£24.5/bbl).
