The UK gas system has opened undersupplied this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast to close 10mcm short.

Flows to Belgium through the IUK are currently at 30mcm.

Gemma Bruce from npower’s Optimisation Desk said: “That is keeping demand supported while the mild temperatures continue to keep domestic demand subdued.”

Langeled flows are at 52mcm.

Ms Bruce added: “Storage withdrawal nominations are however helping to cover some of the shortfall and we may see further nominations across the day in order to bring the system to balance.”

On the power system, margins are at 11.7GW as demand is “a touch” lower.

Imports from the French interconnector are close to full capacity at 1.8GW.

Wind is generating 3.5GW and is expected to rise to 7GW by tomorrow morning.

Ms Bruce added: “Nuclear generation has dipped slightly this morning with an unplanned outage at Heysham-1 reducing capacity by 500MW.”

Oil is currently trading at $37 (£24.4) per barrel.
