A total of 160 Indian villages started the New Year with electricity.
According to Piyush Goyal, Minister for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy, those villages were powered last week.
That’s 42% more compared to the week before, the Ministry of Power added.
Some of the villages are in Odisha, Bihar, Rajasthan and Assam.
The Indian Government has decided to provide electricity to the remaining 18,452 unelectrified villages in the country by May 2018.
