The UK gas system is balanced, according to npower’s daily market report.
Norwegian flows have been reduced to 10mcm and exports through the UK Interconnector have dropped to near zero.
Tim Carter from the Optimisation Desk said: “LNG flows have picked up a touch too to account for the slightly higher demand.”
Temperatures are forecast to drop next week.
Mr Carter added: “The overnight weather runs have increased the prospect of a cold snap starting with seasonal normal temperatures by Sunday and dropping over four degrees below by next Thursday, with some longer range forecasts suggesting temperatures could stay that low through the balance of January.
“Those sort of drops in temperatures could add up to 100mcm per day demand in the UK, 50% higher than today’s demand.”
On the power system, peak margins are very “comfortable” at more than 12GW.
Wind is generating 2.5GW and is expected to increase to 5GW this afternoon.
Oil is trading at $35.6 (£23.4) per barrel.
