David Porter is the ex-CEO of the Association of Electricity Producers and has been a leading name in the energy industry for more than three decades.
ELN has dubbed him “Mr Electricity” and although he officially stepped down from his role he continues to act as a respected consultant to the energy sector.
David Porter developed and led the UK’s trade association for electricity generating companies – large, medium and small, representing a wide range of technologies. The Association, which began its life in 1987 as the Association of Independent Electricity Producers, became a recognised and effective trade body. The membership grew to include all major UK generating businesses and it secured influence with government and regulators.David gave written and oral evidence to Select Committees, the Competition Commission, MMC, inquiries outside the UK, chaired many energy conferences, served on industry and government committees including the Electricity Pool, the Standing Committee of the Electricity Arbitration Association; Renewable Energy Advisory Committee and ‘Foresight’ Energy Futures Task Force.
David also sat on the board of the European electricity body, Eurelectric. He received an OBE in the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to the electricity generating industry.
