The UK gas and power systems have opened comfortable today, according to npower’s daily market report.

On the gas system, the linepack is forecast to close 4mcm short.

Norwegian flows from the Langeled pipeline are at 65mcm and BBL is flowing at 22mcm.

Sam Hill from the Optimisation Desk said: “Some storage facilities have upped their withdrawals, which reflects in the more evenly balanced supply, with Rough withdrawing at around 35mcm, up on last week.”

LNG flows through South Hook are at 46mcm and one tanker is expected to arrive today and another later this week.

Mr Hill added: “Today we have also seen supplier Total turn on their new West of Shetland Lagan and Tormore fields – these once fully operational are expected to supply around 8% of the UK’s gas.”

On the power system, peak margins are forecast at 11GW.

CCGT is generating 14GW and wind is producing 4GW but is expected to pick up later.

Brent oil is trading at $33.3 (£22.6) per barrel.

Mr Hill went on: “There have been successful talks between Saudi and Venezuelan oil ministers discussing ways to stabilise the market, this may see the prices find some support.”
