DONG Energy has sold half of its share in an offshore wind farm in the UK for £660 million.

Danish pension provider PKA and parent company of LEGO Group KIRKBI now each own a 25% stake in the 258MW Burbo Bank Extension project.

Located seven kilometres off Liverpool Bay, it will consist of 32 turbines and generate enough electricity to power more than 230,000 homes.

Work on the extension will start this spring, with operation expected to start in the first half of next year.

The Burbo Bank offshore wind farm has a capacity of 90MW and generates enough power for 80,000 homes.

Earlier this month, DONG Energy confirmed plans to build the world’s largest offshore wind farm in the UK.
