The UK gas system is oversupplied, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast to close 32mcm long.

Norwegian flows through the Langeled pipeline are at 64mcm and LNG send out is more than 46mcm.

Gemma Bruce from the Optimisation Desk said: “While temperatures today remain mild, gas demand is hovering around seasonal normal levels with healthy wind generation offsetting some of the CCGT demand.”

On the power system, the peak margin is above 10GW.

The French and Dutch interconnectors are importing at full capacity while wind is generating 3.6GW.

Ms Bruce added: “Forecasts do suggest we will see wind tail off across the day to just over 2GW by the evening peak which will mean we will need to see an increase in thermal generation to replace this loss.”

Brent oil is trading at $33.78/bbl (£23.6/bbl).

Ms Bruce said: “Elsewhere, the pound has come under further pressure against the euro as Brexit fears weight on traders’ minds with Boris Johnson putting his support behind a British exit from the EU. The pound is now worth €1.2771.”
