The UK gas system is short, according to npower’s daily market report.

That’s because an outage at Rough storage facility cut withdrawals by 16mcm.

The linepack is currently 20.6mcm short.

Alex Guiot from the Optimisation Desk said: “This news is compounded by additional demand on top of seasonal normal as a result we are seeing gas prices being pushed up in within day and day ahead.

“Although month ahead and futures seasons still remain bullish, news of an additional LNG tanker heading towards the UK from Nigeria have been supporting these prices.”

On the power system, the peak margin is above 9GW in line with temperatures and increased demand.

Wind is generating 3.7GW and CCGTs are providing 40% of the stack.

Coal is producing 18% of the power mix and the Dutch interconnector has increased its flows by 8mcm.

Brent oil is currently trading at $37.10/bbl (£25.2/bbl).
