Power margins continue to be tight today at 6.7GW, according to npower’s daily market report.
That’s due to a lack of wind production which stands at around 1GW but is expected to pick up close to 2GW this evening.
Gas-fired generation continues to dominate at 47% of the stack and both the French and Dutch interconnectors are importing at full capacity to the UK, said Gemma Bruce from the Optimisation Desk.
The gas system has opened in length this morning, with the linepack currently forecast to close 14mcm long.
Langeled flows are back up close to capacity at 71mcm and BBL remains steady at 26mcm.
Oil prices continue to hold above $40/bbl (£28/bbl) and temperatures are expected to drop back below seasonal normal levels at the start of next week, “all of which are contributing to the slightly firmer prices”, Ms Bruce added.
