ScottishPower Renewables and Siemens have signed what is claimed to be the largest wind turbine contract in Europe.
The engineering giant will deliver 102 turbines with a capacity of 7MW each for the energy supplier’s East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm.
The 75-metre long turbines, which will be manufactured in Hull, will be capable of powering 500,000 homes per year.
The agreement, worth up to one-third – or around £833 million – of the overall £2.5 billion, is expected to support around 3,000 jobs during the construction period.
ScottishPower Renewables said the project will be delivered at a price of £119/MWh through the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme.
Keith Anderson, CEO of ScottishPower Renewables added: “We have concluded Europe’s largest project-specific wind turbine agreement just a month after taking our final investment decision and we have scaled the final hurdle by satisfying our CfD conditions with the Low Carbon Contracts Company. It is now full steam ahead for East Anglia ONE, with ground set to be broken early next year.”
