The UK gas system has opened undersupplied today.

The linepack is forecast to close at 13mcm short, according to npower’s daily market report.

That’s because flows from Norway have been reduced due to maintenance works in the Norwegian shelf.

Flows through the Langeled pipeline are at 32mcm.

LNG send-out is also lower with the South Hook terminal flowing at 15mcm.

Client portfolio manager Gemma Bruce said: “We are likely to see storage sites step in across the day in order to bring the system to balance with no withdrawals currently being seen.”

On the power system, the peak margin is at 13GW despite low wind generation which is providing only 1% of the energy mix.

Ms Bruce added: “Wind generation is not expected to pick up across the next couple of days although we should continue to see reasonably healthy contribution from solar.

“Both the French and Dutch interconnectors continue to be at full capacity in the direction of the UK which is helping cover the short fall from the lower wind generation.

Brent oil is trading at $50.21/bbl (£34.1/bbl).

The pound is currently worth €1.27.
