The newly-developed South Bank Tower in London is to be powered by solar energy.

The 100-panel array has a total capacity of 26KW, which will light up 193 luxury apartments, shops, restaurants and bars.

Developer EvoEnergy expects the system to generate 22,400kWh of clean power every year, helping save 11,850kg of CO2.

Project Manager James Fuller said: “Not only is it going to help reduce the tower’s annual energy costs, it’s also an attractive feature which may appeal to those looking for eco-friendly features in their new home.”

EvoEnergy previously installed a 50KW solar system on the rooftop of the Walkie Talkie.
