The UK power and gas fundamentals have opened balanced this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

The gas system opened “marginally” in length today and the linepack is forecast to close 0.3mcm long.

Norwegian flows through the Langeled pipeline are above 12mcm.

Gemma Bruce from the Optimisation Desk said: “Demand continues to be above seasonal normal levels supported by power station burn with gas-fired generation currently contributing more than 50% to the UK generation stack.”

On the LNG side, South Hook is flowing at 35mcm and several tankers are expected to arrive in the UK during the week.

On the power system, wind is generating less than 500MW and the French and Dutch interconnectors are importing below their full capacities.

The East-West interconnector is importing around 300MW of power into the UK.

Brent oil is trading above $50/bbl (£37.5/bbl).
