The UK gas system has opened long this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.
The linepack is forecast to close 15mcm long as withdrawals from medium range storage sites contribute to the system comfort.
Gemma Bruce from the Optimisation Desk said: “Other flows are in line with the levels we have seen all week with South Hook sending out close to 35mcm and Langeled importing 12mcm. Demand continues to be above seasonal normal levels supported by the high levels of gas fired generation online.”
On the power system, wind generation has increased to 3.5GW.
Ms Bruce added: “This peak in wind generation is expected to be relatively short lived with levels dropping down overnight and into tomorrow morning before picking up again on Saturday afternoon.”
The French interconnector is importing at 1.5GW and the Dutch one is exporting 300MW to the continent.
Ms Bruce went on: “Oil prices today are trading a touch below the $47/bbl (£36.1/bbl) mark following the sharp decline yesterday afternoon when US stockpile data showed a smaller than expected decline. Losses are however being kept in check as investors weigh the largest drop in US output since 2013 last week.”
