Big Six supplier SSE has installed 250,000 smart meters across the country so far.
The firm installed the landmark 250,000th meter in a house in Rugby in the West Midlands, as part of its plans to install smart meters in the homes of every single one of its customers with no upfront cost.
The energy supplier aims to ramp up from around 1,000 smart installs a day currently, to 7,000 daily from late 2017.
Sara Jane Asquith, Director of Metering and Smart Transformation said: “Smart meters allow our customers to be smarter about how they interact with their energy consumption in the home.
“Our teams have done an excellent job of delivering this change to 250,000 customers and we’re looking forward to introducing these benefits to all of our customers in the months and years to come.”
