The UK gas system is forecast to close 8mcm long, according to npower’s daily market report.

Nicholas Morgan from the Optimisation Desk said: “Increased flows at Holford and Bacton have helped push the system long.

“Yesterday the gas system was undersupplied with unplanned and planned outages on key North Sea infrastructure which gave support to prices on the prompt.  We could see gas on the curve follow oil up again today. As CCGT units provide marginal power generation, power would be likely to follow gas as it has done in recent days.”

On the power system, wind is currently providing 9% of the energy mix but is expected to reach 3.7GW today and solar is expected to produce 4.2GW.

Nuclear is contributing 27% of the stack and CCGT 47%.

The French interconnector is importing at full capacity.

Mr Morgan added: “National Grid put the demand peak at just over 32GW today.”

Brent oil is currently trading at $44.9/bbl (£34.5/bbl).
