They UK’s power demand is expected to be low today, reaching 36.5GW.

Wind generation is forecast to peak at 5GW as is solar, according to npower’s daily market report.

Low nuclear output in France combined with maintenance works have reduced flows to the UK through the interconnector.

A 1.7GW surplus is forecast for next week.

Rodney Johnson from the Optimisation Desk said: “The 880MW Carrington CCGT plant began generating on Monday – the first new gas-fired plant in UK since 2013.”

The gas system is 17mcm long as demand as well as gas exports have decreased.

Brent oil is currently trading at around $47.18 /barrel (£35.8/bbl).

Mr Johnson added: “Brent eased overnight on news that Russia has restarted loading crude at a Black Sea terminal which had previously been disrupted due to bad weather.”
