Funding worth £9.3 million is being made available by DONG Energy for community and environmental projects in the UK.

The East Coast Community Fund will be used for projects to be developed in the coastal areas of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and North Norfolk.

Applicants can win grants of between £1,000 and £50,000 for their projects.

The fund is is part of the community engagement programme for DONG Energy’s Hornsea Project One and Race Bank offshore wind farms, which are located off the Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and North Norfolk coast.

The firm has pledged £390,000 from the main fund to support a wide range of community and environmental projects each year for the next 20 years.

An additional £75,000 per year will be ring-fenced for a skills fund, designed to support a range of educational and training initiatives focused on science, technology, engineering and maths.

Brent Cheshire, DONG Energy’s UK Country Chairman said: “DONG Energy is committed to supporting the local areas and communities where we operate and so I’m delighted this fund is now open to applications.

“We are proud of our place in this part of the country and we recently announced plans for a multi-million pound investment in Grimsby to create the UK’s largest offshore wind operations and maintenance hub. This fund is another way we can make a difference locally.”
