A new offshore wind tower manufacturing facility is to be built in the UK.

CS Wind UK will construct the site which will be located next to its existing onshore wind tower facility in Campbeltown, Scotland.

DONG Energy, which has invested “multi-million pound” to develop the project claims, it will be the first one of its kind in the country that can manufacture tower for offshore wind turbines.

It will be able to manufacture at least 50 per year and 70 jobs will be safeguarded, the company adds.

The Danish company has also secured preferred access rights to towers for its offshore wind farms.

Brent Cheshire, DONG Energy’s UK Country Chairman said: “The UK is the world leader in offshore wind and a growing market for DONG Energy. Our investment means that we and other offshore wind developers will be able to source towers in the UK, which is fantastic news not just for us but the whole UK offshore industry.”

Last month, Siemens opened a blade factory in Hull.
