Vattenfall is to extend its 300MW wind farm off the coast of Thanet, Kent.
The Swedish wind giant wanted to expand the site in 2010 but scrapped the idea due to grid constraints. The firm believes these technical issues have now been resolved.
The firm plans to connect the turbines to the grid at Richborough and is exploring two potential underground cable routes.
The additional 34 turbines could provide 340MW of renewable power to the site, which already produces enough energy to supply 220,000 homes with electricity each year.
Vattenfall hopes to secure consent for its revived plans by mid-2019.
