EDF Energy Renewables has awarded a contract to build what will be Europe’s largest battery storage project.

The 49MW project is part of a new 200MW enhanced frequency response system, which is being deployed across the country by National Grid to balance the power grid.

Nidec ASI will supply the battery storage system, which will be integrated into a power management system being provided by EDF Store & Forecast.

It will be located at EDF Energy’s West Burton site in Nottinghamshire.

The project is expected to be operational early next year.
