Two new contracts to update seismic mapping for oil and gas exploration off the UK coast have been awarded.

The work, which will focus around the East Shetland Platform and South West Approaches has been offered by the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) as part of the 21st Century Exploration Road Map (21CXRM) initiative.

The South West Approaches contract has been awarded to Getech and BGS, whilst FROGTECH and IGI Limited will undertake the studies on the East Shetland Platform.

Both projects, which will complement the ongoing acquisition and reprocessing of seismic data in the area, are expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter.

Nick Richardson, Head of Exploration and New Ventures at the OGA, said: “These projects represent the initial phases of more extensive regional mapping projects to drive exploration across the UK Continental Shelf.

“The results of these projects will enhance industry knowledge, awareness and understanding of both the South West Approaches and East Shetland Platform ahead of the 31st Frontier Licencing Round.”
