The Scottish Government has granted planning consent for a floating offshore wind farm.

Kincardine Offshore Windfarm Limited’s 50MW project will be located around 15km south east of Aberdeen.

It will include eight turbines, which will generate enough electricity to power almost 56,000 homes as well as help reduce 94,500 tonnes of carbon emissions every year.

The project is expected to create 110 jobs during assembly, installation and maintenance of the wind farm.

Business, Innovation and Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse MSP said: “If the technology can be demonstrated at scale, it has huge potential to help Scotland meet its energy needs and to develop a supply chain that can service opportunities elsewhere in Europe and in markets such as South East Asia and North America.”

Last month the Highland Council approved another innovative floating wind farm in Scotland.
