Nearly a third of energy consumers want verbal support on how to change energy suppliers.

That’s according to new research from energy comparison website www.moneyexpert.com, which suggests 29% of households would welcome phone or face-to-face support in finding the most competitive gas and electricity deals as price hikes of up to 18% come into effect.

It shows one in five households, equivalent to approximately 5.4 million people, have never changed supplier.

Around 58% of consumers say they are happy with their current deal but nearly a third admit they do not understand how to switch.

Regulator OFGEM estimates the average household can save as much as £232 a year by moving to a different energy provider.

Mike Rowe, Chief Operations Officer, at MoneyExpert.com said: “Switching online suits most customers but it is clear that millions prefer guidance on how to it and would welcome face-to-face or phone support on making the move.”
