A plumber from Kent has won a competition to write a jingle for Gas Safety Week.

According to the organiser, Installers First, people spend an average of 50 hours each year with catchy tunes stuck in their head – the firms hopes a song is the perfect medium to get people thinking about gas safety.

James Elmy’s lyrics stress the importance of using a registered engineer and booking annual safety checks.

There are an estimated five million unsafe gas installations currently in UK homes.

One in six people would knowingly employ an illegal gas fitter and 41% say it’s cheaper.

However, £100 million each year is wasted rectifying illegal jobs.
